Some Things We Recently Learned
We know plenty about restoration, and our credentials are on the website, so we figured we’d all learn something new to present to our readers. The information isn’t about the stellar service provided by SERVPRO of Missoula, but is a way to keep in touch.
We’ve spent serious time cleaning up after pet odors, both at home and in our jobs, so we had to look into fun facts about dogs and cats.
Dogs:
- They can learn 1,000 words
- The helicopter tail wag is a sign of very friendly pooch
- The average dog lives 10 to 14 years, with smaller breeds living longer than larger ones
- Dogs’ nose prints are unique to each dog
- Dogs see best at dawn and dusk
- They aren’t colorblind, but they don’t see reds which is why they’ll lose a red ball in a green lawn
- Dogs don’t like being left alone
- The canine sense of smell is better than the human sense of smell; they just like stinky stuff
Cats:
- “Bezoar” sounds less unappealing than “hairball”, but it’s just the technical term
- Cats make approximately 100 different sounds
- Research teams found that cats do recognize their owners’ voices; they just choose not to respond (call us “not at all surprised”)
- Cat brains are biologically more similar to human brains than they are to dog brains
- Black cats are thought to be unlucky in North America and parts of Europe, but lucky in Britain and Australia
- Cats have wider fields of vision than humans, and see better in low light than humans, but they don’t have color receptors for red
- Isaac Newton invented the cat flap for his pet, Spithead, who wanted to go outdoors or come inside when Newton didn’t want to be interrupted (figures)
