Noses Know SERVPRO of Missoula Removes Odors

Odors? Oh Dear!

Some smells don’t deserve to be called “aromas”. They’re too offensive for such a pretty sounding word. Unfairly – not that we expect fairness from life – these aromas are often the same ones that cling tenaciously to carpets, walls, subflooring, and the HVAC system. Pet urine, tobacco, soot, skunk spray, and spray from ferrets and their relatives are smells that linger. Just when you think the odor is finally gone, a little bit of humidity brings in back.

SERVPRO® of Missoula is here to save the sniffers!

We are an independent company that is part of a franchise with a strong history of cleaning the worst messes. We clean and disinfect buildings from major disasters (storms, fires, trauma), removing even the tiny particles that cause odor.

We have techniques and equipment to eliminate odors rather than merely covering them up.

Call us at 406-327-9500. For emergencies, we are available 24 hours/day, every single day. No one should have to wait for the convenience of a restoration company.

We get rid of odors from anything, including:

  • Urine and feces
  • Other animal smells (including skunk spray)
  • Decay (such as from animal remains lodged in the building)
  • Trauma and crime
  • Tobacco, nicotine, other products
  • Microbial growth, including mold
  • Soot or smoke damage
  • Burned plastics

If it isn’t on the list, it should be!

Facts about the Sense of Smell

  1. Some people can perceive aromas better than others. We can all train ourselves to be better at both identifying and detecting odors, but there are group and individual differences.
  1. In general, women have better senses of smell than men. It isn’t a small difference either.
  1. Pregnant women have better senses of smell than other women (even compared to non-pregnant selves).
  1. Everyone has a unique body odor except for monozygotic (identical) twins.
  1. Our brains can process 10,000 different odors in an odor the size of a postage stamp. For those of you don’t remember postage stamps, the most common stamp’s size is 0.87 by 0.98 inches high.
  1. Our sense of smell is weakest in the morning and improves throughout the day. It’s probably a good thing because of morning breath.
  1. The senses of taste and smell are separate, but strongly related. If a person’s sense of smell is diminished (as when the person has a cold), the sense of taste is also diminished.
  1. Extended exposure to strong unpleasant aromas can dampen the overall sense of smell. People who work around strong odors can prevent the impairment by wearing masks.
  1. Dry air carries odor particles less well than moist air, which is why our sense of smell is stronger during spring and summer than in fall and winter.
  1. For sight, sound, and taste, we identify the information and then have an emotional reaction. For smell, we have an emotional reaction first, then we identify it.
