SERVPRO of Missoula Wishes a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving for All
According to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), Thanksgiving is the holiday with the largest number of residential fires. SERVPRO® of Missoula reminds the community that ensuring your smoke detectors are functioning correctly can help keep your family safe this year.
Residential Fires
Most residential fires start in the kitchen, most often because someone isn’t paying enough attention. Thanksgiving dinners require a lot of cooking (or just reheating for some of us) and there are often many distractions.
The NFPA has also discovered that many times in fires, the homes did have smoke detectors installed, but someone had removed the batteries because of nuisance (or false) alarms. They want everyone to know:
- Don’t do that!
- Get a newer set of detectors – they don’t produce nearly as many false alarms as the old ones.
- Use a fan to vent smoke out the windows and away from the smoke detectors.
- Don’t install smoke detectors over the stove or over other cooking utensils.

Dad Joke:
Q: What do you call a turkey the day after Thanksgiving?
A: Lucky
Okay, we’re glad that’s over.
If you’re having a small Thanksgiving dinner this year, here are some alternatives to the traditional turkey dinner:
- Use a turkey cutlet to make hot turkey sandwiches at home. You can still make slaw or salad, gravy (great on the sandwiches), and whatever side you want.
- Choose a rare treat, such as steak sandwiches, grilled fish, or home-made pizza for the main meal.
- Pasture-raised chicken is still a poultry star, but you don’t need to host a crowd to make cooking it worth the fridge space.
- Get take-out – any kind you like, but there are restaurants that provide turkey dinners for two or four people.
SERVPRO of Missoula wishes a safe and happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
Have a great weekend!
